This is the whole crux of MAHA. Make health a completely personal choice by denying any external causes of disease and then when you completely cut any possible health assistance then that’s fine because health is a completely personal choice and responsibility and people should just try harder to he healthy

Didn’t forget the part where you get to blame people for their own illness! Being sick now becomes a moral failing because you didn’t do enough to stay healthy.

Being sick is a moral failing just like being poor or being ugly. /S

Btw, have y’all seen the mar-a-lago face? That one IS a personal choice. And WOW what a choice.

But if you do try to stay healthy (e.g. wearing a mask and social distancing during cold and flu season) you’re a $insult_of_the_week

It’s “prosperity gospel” but for health instead of wealth. I’m healthy because I’m a good person and you’re not because you’re a bad person. It’s literally the same talking points too. Point at the minority of folks in a demographic who actually make genuinely bad decisions and apply that to the group as a whole.

Everyone should arbitrarily start boycotting Cheesecake Factory based on this. Eat less cake? OK. Let businesses start complaining. Every service cut should be met with additional consumer strikes.

I don’t think people understand how fucked people who don’t fit the societal mold of how their body or mind should function are here in the US, things are about to get very grim in the US, much grimmer than they were. The center of this society has decided what they don’t like about Trump and fascism are primarily its harsh tone as he and other rightwing nutjobs murder us. The expression of how little I am worth to the society around me is not lost on me, it is only lost on the centrists who tone police me for being negative about my future.

I know many red states have been trying to defend Republican Medicaid cuts by blaming residents for being unhealthy.

“We tried to give you healthcare, but it wasn’t sustainable bc y’all just don’t know how to take care of yourselves.”

The cost being unsustainable is pure bullshit anyway, but even if that were true, the idea that when looking at the cost of covering healthcare in the United States, their go to argument for why it’s so expensive, places the blame on the patients for needing healthcare.

As if nobody has ever pointed out side by side bills comparing the cost of the same hospital stays in the U.S. vs just about any other county.

Peak authoritarian government acting like a narcissistic parent and gaslighting America into believing the reason they can’t take care of their kids is bc the kids are at fault. Not bc they just suck as a parent and shouldn’t have kids if they can’t take care of them.

And the rich part is that if they wanted to go down the route of “healthcare is expensive because America is overall unhealthy” that’s “fine”. As the folks in charge do something about it?

Invest in better education on the importance of proper diet and exercise. Invest in providing cheaper and more readily available whole foods. Subsidized or provide classes that teach people how to actually cook. Do the things that would actually help “make America healthy again” instead of worrying about fucking food dyes and weather or not a trans person is getting healthcare.

If they did that while spouting that kinda bullshit at least they would be intellectually consistent, but they don’t and that’s how you know they’re full of shit.

He is completely wrong, while being right too. Americans could benefit from a better diet.

Maybe the American government could provide proper health care and not support junk food industry.

yeah taking out the grain subsidies and moving them over to fruit and veg based on lowness of sugar content and highness of fiber and nutrient content. That might be something to do.

I get what you’re going for here, but the lowness of sugar isn’t really all that important if we’re talking whole fruits.

Mangos for example would be considered high in sugar, but I would argue they shouldn’t be discriminated against in comparison to something like an apple. Mangos are also quite filling compared to something like a candy or juice of similar calorie content just like other lower calories fruits such as apples or strawberries.

Potatoes and other starchy vegetables could potentially get a bad wrap too for similar reasons.

Sadly, yes, living a healthier lifestyle is going to be a person’s best option in the wake of health care being even more enshittified.

Hard to do in a nation where there are food deserts, gym memberships a luxury, and the nearest health care provider is upwards of 50 miles away.

This, to me, stinks of the same garbage people are fed about recycling, when we all know that it’s the billionaire class and their institutional, astronomical waste and energy usage that is the real problem, not individuals tossing out the dozen soda cans they drink in a week.

In my opinion this is why unhealthy foods should be taxed to all fuck and back. Don’t want to spend money on healthcare, tax what’s making people unhealthy. Then with that extra dosh maybe you could fund healthcare a little more. Unfortunately there is no population on earth who’d accept their luxuries being taxed like that.

That is absolutely useless advice. Guys, if you are worried about the cuts then simply just make more money to give to your insurance companies! Or ask daddy for a bigger trust fund.
    See, easy.

Right, I’m tired after giving you that FREE advice so I’m off to my second holiday home for a week or two to recharge my batteries before my annual month summer holiday.
