  • One time a VP decided to jump in and be a developer and he just pointed a bunch of cards when the dev that was really going to do the work was off for the day. Obviously the points were way too low, so I just padded out the rest of the cards knowing the 7 points on the cards the VP pointed was going to be the entire two week sprint for the other dev and I’d need to to whatever else was put into the sprint.

And that’s how I found out the Product Manager was putting the points into a spreadsheet to track how many points each individual dev was doing. He was actually upset at me for doing 20 points in the sprint. Sure, I padded them out, but why wasn’t he bothered by the cards that had too few points on them? Just upset his spreadsheet was screwed up, but couldn’t be angry at the VP that under-pointed a bunch of cards.

  • Yeah but there wasn’t an algorithm picking out all of that shit and giving us a constant stream of 100% pure troll heroin.

Seeing one post in fifty telling you garbage puts it into the context of “that guy is saying some weird shit”. Seeing only garbage in your feed makes it seem normal and those opposed to it are the weirdos.

I doubt someone without depth perception would crash either. They’d notice the straps on the side, and things not being the exact colour shade. Might think it was a big piece of glass set up on the road, but that wouldn’t be something you’d just plow through.

  • Yeah computers were doubling in speed every 18 months back then. And there were competing products oftentimes years before Apple put out their version. Apple primarily put a lot of polish onto the technological innovations that were happening at the time.

Don’t get me wrong polish is really important. Apple didn’t invent the MP3 player or the smartphone. But the MP3 players before the iPod were really fiddley and janky. BlackBerries had a downright primitive look and feel next to an iPhone.

Also marketing… a lot of people didn’t know MP3 players existed until they saw advertisements for the iPod.

  • A lot of shitty analogies abound.

    How about these ones:

Is it ok to refuse service to a mixed race couple getting married?

Is it ok to refuse service to a couple, both of whom are black who are getting married?

I think these examples are much closer to the analogies people are coming up with in this thread. Or do you think being gay is an ideology? Is being gay a religion? Is being gay like being a racist?

Or is being gay something that a person is born as? If so isn’t this a lot like being refused service because of race?
