Studies consistently show that Jewish Israelis view Palestinians as less than human. This deep-seated racism is rooted in the Zionist colonial project and helps explain the broad support for the Gaza genocide.
I find this interesting with hunting. It’s something I do for food and only animals not native to the area that are destroying other habitats.
No one I know that hunts does it because killing an animal is fun. There are fun parts to hunting, but the actual moment you pull a trigger or release an arrow is stressful. Nothing in you is excited or happy about killing an animal and at times you have to mentally convince yourself that it was justified and with purpose for yourself and for other animals. Ensuring and having a fast kill is extremely relieving. Not doing this is extremely distressing.
Truthfully I find anyone that hunts for game to be a genuine psychopath. It is a job, not a leisure activity. It is a cruel thing that must be done with the highest responsibility and ethics. But I think these people are rare. At least in my experiences, every hunter I’ve met has been very close and connected to nature.
My friends ex-husband is one of those people. Zero respect for life. I made the mistake of going hunting with him after there were signs on a mutual fishing trip. While nothing he did was illegal, it was highly unethical. I’ll spare details for the squeamish, but I left the field, hiked out without filling my tag. When I got back to town, I informed her that there was something deeply wrong with that man. It took 9 years, but she’s in the process of getting him out of her life, coparenting aside.
We get a lot of wealthy “hunters” from out of state where you will literally find the carcass left to rot and the head taken for mounting. It’s extremely discomfitting to see the waste. And yet wild hogs and deer overpopulation absolutely does wreck the environment. Eventually buzzards and possum clean up the rest but it’s still weird to realize there are personalities that do that.
Also not getting that clean shot where tracking the prey by blood is the worst, because you know if you don’t find that animal, it’s going to suffer a lot longer than necessary because of you.
Good people do that. Bad people don’t.
