I think it’s short for “the lulu” which is a cutesy name for the Lusitania, meaning they feel like they have been sunk.
It’s a cutesy way of spelling it, popularized on social media and also by content creators
Sometimes words evolved for the spelling, sometimes for the sounds.
I think in this case it was for the fun sound, especially given it arose through tiktok communities.
