I don’t know all the Star Wars lore, but Anakin describing himself as a “general” is interesting. Did he lead armies?

I think he might’ve in the clone wars, but I haven’t watched much of the Clone Wars show tbh.

You should. There’s a lot of good stuff in there, including some genuinely fantastic animation work, especially in the later seasons.

Imo its biggest success is developing Anakin’s character to something above a petulant child. It also shows how much work palpy put into wololoing Anakin. With the show’s stories inserted between movies 2 and 3 as extended context, his decision to turn against the order becomes the logical conclusion of a long series of serious disagreements and extensive grooming, rather than one or two childish tantrums fueled by a little talk with a sly old man.

They didn’t seem to fill quite the same role as modern generals, as we usually saw them leading troops into battle directly rather than overseeing large strategic battle groups or delegating orders to subordinates, but even in the films, the Jedi were directly referred to as generals during the Clone Wars.

      “General Kenobi!”

All the Jedi on the front lines were effectively in charge of the clone battalions.

      Yep.

The Jedi were made generals of the grand army of the republic.

They were like a nobility class, like a British officer “buying” their commission.

Anakin and Obi Wan were two of the most well known Generals in the clone wars.

All* jedi were made generals during the clone wars.

*Wording on the wookieepedia article makes it sound like not all of them and padawans were just commanders. But iirc all the jedi in the show were generals and at least for the sake of this comment Anakin was a general.

Does this mean there is a canon explanation for Obi-Wan thinking Darth Vader killed Anakin?

Pretty sure this was already explained in return of the Jedi.

Obi-wan says that when anakin became Vader, the anakin he knew and loved was dead.

Also in the obi wan tv show

        Tap for spoiler

If I recall correctly there’s a moment where Obi Wan and Vader talk about this, and Vader says that he killed Anakin a d Obi wan kind of agree.
