      Yea, one of the two lanes is likely closed for a lenghty stretch. So someone with a stop/slow sign at either end of the closure, who are on the phone or walkie talkie with each other. Bunch of peole go one way on the open road, then a bunch of people go the other way on the open stretch.

      Probably hella annoying for locals as its big delay. But im a city boy and only see these on road trips, so Im usually in no rush, a good mode, and able to enjoy the scenery.

        Is it not common to use temporary streetlights for that? This sounds great for short construction sites like a few days but for weeks on end something automatic should be cheaper no?

          No idea about cost efficiency. These are usuallly pretty rural areas, so maybe they just never made the investment to buy temp ones? If it aint broke? Also I could see some problems with lights, like when someone runs the red and now two cars are stuck facing each other on one lane.
