I’m getting better at finding new ways to break my installation. Now I don’t mess with things and just use it as is. Might start messing with stuff on my laptop rather than PC so I can mess up there instead.

Don’t offer stuff online for free. You attract the scum of the earth. If you list things for £1 you get a completely different type of people. Never engage with people who are looking for free things on Facebook marketplace.
I agree that we should discourage casual sex.

All news sites should be consumed via RSS. Their front pages are the equivalent of social media algorithms and you only see what they want to show you. When you use RSS you get a list of news in time order and see news stories you would never see on their website because of how fast they drop it from their front page and bury it in menus.

Everything seems critical when you haven’t tried living without. Meat eaters can’t comprehend living without meat. Car drivers can’t imagine living without cars.
I wondered how people pass their time without phones. Then my autistic son started demanding holding onto my phone for every waking minute he is not at school. Now I spend my day without the phone.
Now that YouTube has stopped working on NewPipe, I’ve stopped watching it…and it felt a bit uncomfortable to miss my videos before bed, but now it’s not a big deal. None of these things are critical. There’s a near infinite world of choices available to us now. We just need to pick something else.
I’ll be the first to hope for the demise of Windows…but I thought the “subscription model” rumours were all discredited. Obviously anything could happen in the future I guess.
Let him try to aim for it… As long as he doesn’t neglect his education and other opportunities them there’s no harm in giving him some years to figure this out himself the hard way.
