bier@feddit.nlto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Road fatalities per 100,000 population in major US States, Australian States and Canadian Provinces9·25 days agoThe Netherlands has 4.19
The Netherlands is close in size to Maryland, and close in the number of inhabitants as New York. Also half of the traffic is cars and half is bicycles. It’s pretty insane how bad Mississippi is.
For test data I like to use different movie or comic book names for different epics.
So when we start a new epic with multiple user stories I decide this will be all star wars, or matrix or donald duck characters, etc etc. The nice thing about it is when certain test data gives unexpected errors in other parts of application its easy to track where the test data is from.
Jan Smit (in Dutch)
Yeah if bugs didn’t exist I’d be homeless too

Only to find out the next morning during my shower, I have been trying to squeeze out toothpaste of a tube that was basically empty 3 days ago. I browse all the aisles because I don’t want to come back and remember I forgot something.
bier@feddit.nlto Enshittification@lemmy.world•Google fucked a whole generation with Chromebooks, and now they're fucking the next generation with AI13·1 month agoYeah it’s a pretty bad take IMHO. When I was a kid we had one 386 desktop computer running MS-DOS. No laptops, phones or tablet. I always liked computers and when I went to high school I noticed a bunch of old broken computers in a storage room one day. Asked the computer teacher (we had computer classes learned MS Word and (blind) typing) if I could try to fix them. Me and a friend spend many luch breaks swapping parts, until about half of them worked again. Learning about something is mostly your willingness to learn. As a highschool kid I would have loved to get a laptop. If I had a Chromebook I’m fairly sure I would have tried to run a custom OS on it or see what else non standard thing I could have unlocked.
Wow China really dropped the ball on this one.
In Europe when you book ahead of time and are not too specific about the dates you can fly much cheaper. If I want to go from Amsterdam to Barcelona I can get a much much cheaper flight. Why would I go for the option that is slower and more expensive?
I wish trains where cheaper I’d take them more often.
I once heard someone make the argument flying is cheaper because a plane can fly from one airport to almost any other airport. So when you own a plane you can use it in a much more flexible way. A train can only go over a fixed track, yes you can use switches etc. But when you build an airport basically any plane can go there immediately. For trains it doesn’t work like that. Make matters even worse in Europe usually train operators are national and most trains don’t cross borders beyond a few stations.
bier@feddit.nlto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do some people hate drinking water?0·1 month agoUntil a week ago I was like this, coffee, some water and in the evening 1 or 2 beers.
But about a week ago my big toes started to hurt while walking. Googled my symptoms and I’m fairly sure I’m developing gout. So now I’m trying to get at least 2 liters of water in.
My problem is mostly that I just don’t get thirsty during the day. Like some days I might only drink one litre in total and I don’t feel thirsty at all.
It’s a healthier meal than 90% of stuff from the supermarket, maybe a bit high on the salt
bier@feddit.nlto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Roommate refuses to use my body wash cause it's not "manly"English0·2 months agoAs a kid we always had shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Nobody used bodywash or soap. We washed our hair once in a while and thats it. We washed our bodies too, but just water. Anyway I’m in my 40s and still never started with bodywash, it’s seriously something you don’t need. I do use shampoo but that is more because I like it, it’s also unnecessary.

Thanks, that sounds like something that should definitely be a default option in an OS.
I remember I used rocketdock way back in the day. It gave windows sort of a mac style dock. At some point I also used something called launchy I think.
What does it do?
No it’s a name you call somebody, but only if someone really hurt you or screwed you over.
When you hurt you toe you might say teering or tyfus (tbc, typhus)
Cancer dog (kanker hond) is a very bad swear word in the Netherlands.
Exactly the same, what kind of lame bs is this, the best thing about the Linux community is that people help each other, not for money or fake internet points, but because they are good people.
Yes but I felt adding the “je” part would make it more confusing for non Dutch readers.
This comic goes from 2020 to 1984, was this comic originally about idiots that compared wearing a face mask to wearing a jew star?
