Anti-bike arguments aren’t just frustrating—they’re outdated, inaccurate, and often repeated without a shred of evidence.

Cycling is part of the war on cars that’ll turn our country soft by promoting thick, muscular thighs.

    Someone, probably

I haven’t been active in bike advocacy in nearly twenty years, and these are all the exact same arguments we dealt with back then. It saddens me that all these long lost arguments are still being made by car drivers.

I second the vote for a recumbent. I switched to one in 2006 and never looked back. So comfy. You can go for a bike ride and have a lie down at the same time.

In heavy traffic, bikes are the fastest thing on the road.

      *too

Also, for me, it’s actually faster and I never have to worry about parking or traffic jams. It won’t be the case for everyone, but a lot of people are surprised to learn that, once they figure out their route, it’s either about the same or faster.

It’s a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don’t be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.
