Seriously. Why the fuck would I want a machine that draws for me? What’s next, a machine that pets cats and laughs at jokes so that I can use all my energy towards making profit for our overlords?
You might not, but someone is out there who can’t draw, or doesn’t want to put the time in to master making the art they want to see, or doesn’t want to pay fair rates for labor to put art in their content to make it look pretty for commercial purposes.
Either way, actual human artists are losing their economic leverage to make a living.
This is the thing I really don’t understand about the AI crowd. I would be so much more supportive of companies like openai if they they were pursuing the automation of the dull tasks nobody wants to do, rather than flagrantly breaking copyright laws (the same ones that have been weaponised against normal folks) to create a pale imitation of human creativity.
Like, shit. I want a machine that will do my taxes and fold my laundry so that I have more time to pursue artistic endeavors.
The thing is - it’s not hard to automate boring repetitive tasks, and we have been doing it for decades really effectively.
But we can’t have people have free time and no worries, right?
That whole argument is stupid really. Nobody is using AI to automate things they would rather do…
Seeing people do something in a couple seconds that could take years of training can be really demotivating
Why ?
(I’m really asking, not trying to convey a point or anything)
I dont know how motivation work, i just know that it happens
As someone who mothertongues a language that reads “ä” as “eh”, I’ve always been calling that thing “heh’aagen-dasz” and because of that I’ll never buy it. It could be delicious, yet I refuse to support this kind of usage.
It was named by Americans who wanted to make a name that sounded Danish.
I’ve never seen anyone say they should ban traditional art and only have AI?
What a well constructed strawman.
It’s not a perfect analogy because no one is paid to eat ice cream. People do get paid to produce art, and that allows a lot of people to pursue their passion while still being able to house and feed themselves. Automating art and making it cheaper than humans means they would no longer be able to do that. We’ve automated away jobs that people actually enjoy doing. It’s not banning per se, but it greatly reduces how much time people can spend on it.
Right but people who like art can still make art, which is what the comic is implying they can’t.
Is this about creativity or capitalism?
If you’re wealthy enough, you can. Otherwise, all your time is going to be spent working (not through producing art) to make ends meet and resting so you can do it all over again the next day.
Don’t try to present an argument to the Anti-AI crowd; they don’t even know what AI is.
I know what AI is and still dont like AI image and text generation
I know what AI is and have developed a simple one myself before. I have also used ai and I still think it shouldn’t be used to automate away interesting jobs
Then my comment is not directed at you 😃
The neo-luddites are mostly bullies riding high on their vocal mob up voting anything they say. They started out blindsiding anybody having fun with AI in any forum and repeating these stupid arguments that wouldn’t pass as grade school logic if their pitchfork mob wasn’t yelling hurrah at any nonsense they spew.
The OG luddites were not opposed to technology but yes I agree
Soon, the only way we’ll be able to afford ice cream is virtually…
typical AI doomer
I get the waffle vs pancake debate but who doesn’t like ice cream?
it’s one of those sarcasm doesn’t translate on the internet things ;P
