I was thinking that a lot of them are too young to even know what those are… My thought was that they’ve been raised on GUI for everything, without being able to tinker even if they wanted to, that the entire concept of CLI is alien to them.

You don’t need to be into tech stuff. You can do everything in CLI that you can do in GUI (but not necessarily vice-versa). Just because you are better with visual shit doesn’t mean that either approach is “right” or “wrong.”
This is ultimately why I switched from Arch… Now I’ve just got an Arch distrobox and if it breaks, no big deal.
Sounds like a win/win if they no longer come to you for troubleshooting
The reason I had no problem whatsoever editing config files is because I’d been doing it for decades already in Windows with .ini files.
And not needing a terminal is different than not having access to one. Windows has a terminal.
If laptops started coming pre-installed with Linux Mint…
This is exactly how I felt when I switched to Linux and it “clicked”.
This is what personal computers were supposed to always be like before Capitalism ruined it for everyone.
I’ve got several friends that game 100% in Linux, and play E:D with flight sticks and shit. Not into the game so I don’t know anything about the specifics, but seems perfectly doable…
Oh word… I tried MPV briefly but didn’t like it as much as vlc
I wish MPC had a linux version. One of the few pieces of Windows-only software (along with foobar2000) that I actually miss.
A few months back I decided to fuck around and see if I could get it working in wine, and it seemed to work OK, but pretty jank. Too jank to consider seriously using.
I was having issues with it the other day, and so I pasted the URL into my browser and it would not let me watch past 1 min of any video without disabling ublock.
Needless to say, I didn’t watch the video. I’m done with using YouTube in any official way. If they successfully remove all options for avoiding ads on their site, then I will just never go there again.
Because they invariably never clean up after themselves…
But mostly, in the US, because sex is verboten and more dangerous than literal gun violence.
Wow, the children’s book you quoted is super deep.
What is “brainrot” about this image?
Yeah fuck that… My voicemail says to email me. I will ignore your call, and then reply within 30 seconds after you email me just to demonstrate without question how you need to contact me moving forward.
Got eeeeem
It’s crazy how so many things like this just add up to a shitty life experience in general… Like every single product we use regularly has had its features and design strengths pared down year after year until we’re left with a thing that barely does the things it originally did, and it somehow costs more than ever.
If it’s just one or two things, it’s annoying. But when it’s literally everything, it just makes life shit. Capitalism has ruined this planet.
once they’ve rolled themselves into a stall backwards…
I think ADA also requires handicapped stalls to be larger so they don’t have to do this.
If there’s a coat hanger on the inside of the door, sometimes hanging a big coat (or something else) can cover the gaps. I’ve done it unintentionally.
yt-dlp?
