Anyhow, a “man cat” just sounds like a cat who dresses up like a man and fights crime
I believe it’s because it was traditionally “wagons ho!” which was probably seen in films.
And I think non-union tradesmen were often thought of as doing things their own way. Maybe even the slightly wrong way.
