The strategy is to get you onto a different platform to make instant messaging easier. They are just “advertising” on Lemmy.

Once you’re on a chat platform, they will likely attempt the Pig Butchering scam: make the target fall in love, then persuade them to send money for things like “travel expenses” or “family medical bills”. Also involves buying crypto.

It’s not a good idea to send them pictures of your face. They can use it for identity theft.

That…seems like a language i could learn, and could probably be taught in schools as a second language.

I feel like the only reason we use English as much as we do is tradition. Time to break tradition.

How to avoid getting scammed:

• DO NOT SEND MONEY
• DO NOT ACCEPT MONEY OR CHECKS
• DO NOT GIVE CREDIT CARD DETAILS
• DO NOT OPEN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WHILE SOMEONE IS CONNECTED TO YOUR DEVICE
• CALL THE INSTITUTION THAT THE OTHER CLAIMS TO BE AND VERIFY THE INFORMATION THEY PROVIDED
• DO NOT PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU KNOW IS STOLEN OR ILLEGAL TO PURCHASE
• BE AWARE OF COMMON SCAM SCRIPTS AND TACTICS
• IF YOU FALL IN LOVE ONLINE, MEET THEM IN PERSON
• DO. NOT. SEND. THEM. MONEY.
