Sometimes it’s a case of variance based on genetic foibles of specific plant varieties, but I’ve been told that it’s sometimes a result of the plant’s reaction to some kind of pathogen (mold, bacteria, fungus, etc.). Some of them just grow into weird shapes despite being 100% A-OK.
