It’s much easier than the Pentagon wants you to think. Whether you’re in the military or know someone who is, this is the definitive guide to walking away. And as Biden’s support for genocide spins out into new US wars across the Middle East, from the Red Sea to Iraq, now would be a good time to walk away.

Featuring special guest Maria Santelli, longtime counselor with the GI Rights Hotline, which provides secure, free and expert support to any service member who wants to leave the military.

CALL the hotline anytime at 1-877-447-4487 for advice, or visit them online at https://girightshotline.org/

Maria is Executive Director of the Center on Conscience and War: https://centeronconscience.org/ GI Rights Hotline

This was me when I was younger, unfortunately :( Doesn’t help that I was born in a one stoplight backwater town in the rural deep South, and had all those wonderful right wing “virtues” and fundamentals drilled into me.

That being said, the silver lining is that the army helped expose me to others from different walks of life. It really helped me open my mind and become a better person.

(I’m certainly not being a military apologist, just saying that it can sometimes be a good thing in some cases. If I hadn’t joined I might still be in that damn town, or near it with that old mindset)

The band Gay for Johnny Depp has a song that ends with the line, “if you’ve never read a newspaper and you want to be all you can be, join the army.”

Sees desperate people getting coerced by the military-industrial complex into signing their lives away for the promise of an education and a slim chance to escape the cycle of poverty.

    “Fucking idiots.”

Edit: Attacking the people being fed into the meat grinder of the military-industrial complex instead of the military-industrial complex itself is just boot-licking with extra steps.

The most desperate US citizen is still far more privileged than the people overseas they were sent to murder.

Yeah that is right, fucking loser idiots. I’d rather have a million living Iraqis than one dipshit American having a chance at the pathetic education on offer in that country.

I think perhaps you’re expecting deeper thoughts than are possible from those that use memes to express their toxic views because they’re fucking idiots.

I lost 2 uncles, 1 friend to the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I spent years finding out who dragged us into these wars which costed family members lives and friends’ lives, now I’m very pissed with the conclusion.

When I was young and homeless and ignorant and had no self esteem

You took me in, gave me food, clothing, safety, training, community, challenges, a paycheck

From your patience when I screwed up I learned to keep trying

From your teaching I learned a path to survival

All you asked was a few years of work and maybe for me to take risks

But even then you taught me how to take risks as safely as possible

    Oh wait

    No

Sorry, that was the military, ha! Whoops, you didn’t fucking help one bit. You just sat on your ass whining with no solutions.

    Oh well, maybe next time!

What a coincidence! I’d also rather have a million living iraqis than a judgemental a-hole like you.

I’m not such a fan of this view anymorr. Many of the people who go into the military actually believe they are going to do good things for the world but are ignorant of how much evil they will be asked to do most of the time, or like the idea of being of service but can’t get into other, better forms of service because those organizations prefer those who have gone to a university or work on a volunteer basis.

This level of ignorance is not only dangerous, it’s close to inexcusable in the 21st century.
