Yup. Just depends on how strongly you hold your principles.
Politely decline. If it’s a firm requirement, look for a new job.
Then why do they have a lock on their phone? Their house? Why do they wear pants? They already won’t give their phone number or email address to anyone who asks. They already practice privacy.
It’s not about having something to hide, it’s about protecting what you share against misuse. Think identity theft.
The point of precheck is to identify you. If you don’t want that, don’t sign up.
Download all your Google account data and find out.
The NSA certainly does keep a copy regardless.

Or really any media that gives a warped view of reality. Movies glorifying drug use, eating disorders, stuff like that. I’m sure you’ve heard about people getting hurt from tiktok “challenges”. Kids are fucking stupid.
It sounds like there’s been some change since that happened. I would review the current terms and GPLv3, if that’s the one you want to use.

It doesn’t go so far as to talk about permanence, at least as far as that text goes. Hopefully it lasts a long time and doesn’t just revert after a few days.

Even with the popular ones, there’s a risk of unrecoverable loss. They don’t test your backups, so if there’s undetected corruption, they may not be restorable.
An untested backup is worth nothing.

If possible, maybe a dumbphone for the time she’s in the US? Or a second, cheap old iPhone for that time, and never bring a phone across the border? And maybe the cheapest pay-as-you-go Tracphone during the crossing for emergencies.
